I suspect that it has something to do with a desktop.ini file that
QNAP/Synology/etc. put within that folder that queues Windows to display a
certain icon. See:

So, desktop.ini needs to be marked as a system file within the shared
folder, and then have the correct options put in it to make it a recycle
folder. I suspect if you look closely enough on the QNAP/Synology device
you'll see the desktop.ini file.
