The online backup makes RPC calls just like joining a new domain
controller over the network, the offline backup takes locks on the
database files and copies them at the tdb or mdb level.
If there are any more combinations that don't 'just work' please
file
bugs with clear directions to reproduce or point me at them, Joseph is
making very good progress on some of the issues here so it would be
good to knock them all off at once.
