I upgraded zentyal as far as 6.1 before it stopped upgrading (it won't save changes any more either, so I can't change almost anything) sitting on Samba 4.7 On Sun, Aug 30, 2020, 3:14 AM Rowland penny via samba <samba at lists.samba.org> wrote:> On 30/08/2020 10:57, Peter Pollock wrote: > > Yeah, I already tried that, to no avail. > > > > I finally had some modicum of success. > > > > Switched everything off except one server, then restored that from > > June and was able to then build a new server and join it to the > > domain. I ask this because there was a similar problem reported sometime ago and the early Samba versions used a different dns structure to what is used now. Try reading this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/817470/how-to-reconfigure-an-msdcs-subdomain-to-a-forest-wide-dns-application This (if it is your problem), coupled with the zentyal schema extensions (which you cannot remove), probably mean it will be easier to start again. Rowland, Thank you for this. Reading through that and checking my server. it looks like at least that part is configured correctly. We a started with a Microsoft W2008 DC and have always been at 2k8 domain level. I cannot remember now what versions of everything we started with but it was 4 years ago and I think we were on Zentyal 4.something but I have no idea about the Samba version. Starting again might just be my project this week and next weekend. If I can build a completely new domain on a seperate subnet on a ProxMox box, then next weekend I can wipe the current servers, join them to the new domain and copy across all the user data. It will be a pig and I'll be left with some stupid file permission issues (need to work out how to do that, copying their home folders and roaming profiles from one domain to the other without screwing up permissions) but with my level of expertise (miniscule compared to yours), it might just be easier to do that than fight with Zentyal.
