I only just today set up Louis' repo anew and 4.9.4 is what I got so I'm quite certain that's the newest package he's currently offering, for Ubuntu at least. $ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/van-belle.list deb http://apt.van-belle.nl/debian bionic-samba49 main contrib non-free $ apt-cache policy samba samba: Installed: 2:4.9.4+nmu-1.1~ubuntu1804 Candidate: 2:4.9.4+nmu-1.1~ubuntu1804 Version table: *** 2:4.9.4+nmu-1.1~ubuntu1804 500 500 http://apt.van-belle.nl/debian bionic-samba49/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.6 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main amd64 Packages 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.5 500 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security/main amd64 Packages 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages Also, I'm actually still not clear if an update to 4.10 will really solve the situation. If I read the bug report correctly, all 4.10 does is run dbcheck --reindex for you. If that doesn't work for me if I do it manually, why would it work if it was done automatically? I had the impression, however, that the upgrade I did on the other machine (which I had to shut down quickly thereafter) from 4.7.4. to 4.10 went without issues. In a nutshell, I'm utterly confused. :-D - Viktor

You can do one of three things: Wait until Louis gets the time (and inclination) to update the Ubuntu repo. Set up Debian stretch in a VM and add this as a 4.9.5 DC to see if this fixes the problem. It could be that the reindex is run before Samba is actually started (just guessing here) and this makes the fix work. If you don't try it, you will never know ;-)>In a nutshell, I'm utterly confused. :-DYou and me both ;-) Rowland
You could try also to run : samba_upgradedns --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ Or if you using internal dns: samba_upgradedns --dns-backend=SAMBA_INTERNAL You should be able to get passed the problem. I'll hope to get the ubuntu 4.9.5. packages online today.
