what version of samba4? rhel6 shiped with a 3.5, no?

I have seen such behavior in the past. You shouldn't base your
conclusion on that, but try to call wbinfo -i username, and then
chown/chgrp with a domain user/group a few files. It is more relevant.
And then test with smbclient and from a windows desktop.
