Hi, I have not yet found any solution to my troubles so I though maybe someone here could give me some help. We have a Linux server with a Scsi Raid 5 disk. We use it as Samba and Nfs server for Windows and Linux clients. It also exports through Samba a disk mounted through Nfs from another Linux server. Everything was working fine until we uppgraded the server to RedHat 7.2. Now, after e few hours/minutes, some smbd process go to uninterruptible state, the load of the server goes very high and clients start to freeze. Nothing else than a reboot can get the server back again. Which mean one or two reboot a day... Any help on this ? Thanks, -- Olivier Pasco Telecommunication Engineer
I am running samba on Rh 7.3 serving windows XP machines on a small network (fewer than 10 cpts). I am experiencing very long delays logging onto the network (2-5 minutes) my clients are assigned IP's via DHCP and I am using a DNS server not located in my building (not allowed to run my own) can anyone help me figure why my logins take so long? I also have trouble when I logout (not shutdown, just logout) and log back in my network drives are not restored, is this because I am using DHCP? Thanks in advance for the help, it's greatly appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963
I am running Samba (latest version) under redhat 8.0 in the smb.conf, I have security = user, and have set userid's and passwords based on 3 Linux accounts I have. this works fine in windows XP and 2000, but in Windows 98 and WIndows Me, samba prompts me for a password to //servername//Home why does it prompt for a password in 98/Me but not 2000/XP? also, in XP, I can write to /home/username but am not able to create or write to /home/username/subdirectories I was told I had to set permissions in redhat to do this, but I think the problem is /home/username/public_html was created by root, if username created it, then it'll write just fine, but since root created it then it won't let username write to it. how would I go about fixing this from the root side so that username can write to it? ___________________________________________________________ Sent by ePrompter, the premier email notification software.
