I am running Samba on a solaris box and windows NT 4.0 on some others. I have a list of users that need to have access to a unix samba share directory from the windows machines. Some of the users need to be able edit and delete files and the rest only need to read access. How do I accomplish this? One easy way is to put the read/write users in one UNIX group and the read only users in a different unix group. Then use group permissions on the files to control access. -- Robert E. That way you can define access rights per user per share in your smb.conf. Kohei
I am running Suse 7.1 with samba installed and i am connecting to a network of windows PC's. I can see the samba server within network neighborhood but when i try to access the server it brings up a password box and none of the passwords i have for users, root etc configured on the linux machine, work. I have checked and rechecked the security settings within linux but everything seems to be fine. Is there something within the password file that needs to be changed in order for me to connect successfully? (I am a new user to linux and i am still unsure as to where everything is within the system) Thanks Andy.
