I have installed Samba 2.2.2 on a SuSE linux box. I was successfully able to map a drive to the linux box from my XP machine using the root user name and password, however I can't log in as any other user. On th Linux machine I have a user named mike which I added to the Samba server using: smbpasswd -a mike' then entered the password and got a message back saying "user mike has been added". I went through the same steps to add the root user, and when I did, I could then log in on my XP machine. Are there any other steps I need to do to log in as a user other than root? Also when I logged in a root, I could then access the /root/ folder on the Linux box even though I don't have it shared, is this expected? Thanks for any help.
