Hello Support, Can you please help. I can understand that Samba allow us to mount a shared drive from the Unix server on to any NT box that connected to it. But how do i go about mounting a shared drive from an NT box to the Unix/Samba server. Hi Karl, Yep, the s/w involved to mount a windows share to a *nix mountpoint via cifs is NOT compiled/tested/shipped with AIX; smbmount,smbfs,smbsh... are not available on that platform; as you suggest, these are primarily a Linuxism. Sharity is a commercial product (they have a 'lite' version that is free, I believe) that does something similar (allowing you to mount a windows share as a unix fs); but it is not associated with the Samba distribution. You can get more info about sharity from the following url: http://www.obdev.at But I do not believe they have a port of this for AIX... I too am left with a question about which command to use. I have Samba 2.0.7 installed on AIX 4.3.3 and am trying to find a way to mount a Windows share. I have seen mention made of smbmount, smbfs, smbsh, sharity, and smbwrapper. None of these are included on my installation (binaries downloaded from AIX's unofficial shareware site - BULL). I am assuming that some of these are bundled with Linux installations only. Suggestions? ----- Original Message ----- From: Urban Widmark <urban@teststation.com> To: <adrianm@cck.com.au> Cc: <samba@samba.org> Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2001 4:11 AM Subject: Re: mount NTBOX> On Thu, 3 May 2001 adrianm@cck.com.au wrote: > > > Hello Support, > > This is not support. > > > I can understand that Samba allow us to mount a shared drive from theUnix> > server on to any NT box that connected to it. Hi Karl, Unless someone else on the list knows of a 3rdparty smbfs-like product that has a port for AIX, that would be true, unfortunately. Anyone out there on the list know of an alternative? Hope this helps, Don "Reason, not volume, is the primary differentiator between a discussion, and an argument." -----Original Message----- From: Karl Jones [mailto:kjones@dbs1.com] Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2001 12:07 PM To: samba@samba.org Subject: Re: mount NTBOX I assume the same goes for Samba 2.0.8 running on SCO OpenServer 5.5. (Quick side question- I was hoping for one-stop-shopping with Samba but it looks like I need to turn to NFS to mount other Unix filesystems (AIX<->SCO). Can you confirm this? Thanks.) ----- Original Message ----- From: MCCALL,DON (HP-USA,ex1) <don_mccall@hp.com> To: 'Karl Jones' <kjones@dbs1.com>; <c> Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2001 9:26 AM Subject: RE: mount NTBOX> Hi Karl, > Yep, the s/w involved to mount a windows share to a *nix mountpoint viacifs> is NOT compiled/tested/shipped with AIX; smbmount,smbfs,smbsh... are not > available > on that platform; as you suggest, these are primarily a Linuxism. > Sharity is a commercial product (they have a 'lite' version that is free,I> believe) > that does something similar (allowing you to mount a windows share as aunix> fs); > but it is not associated with the Samba distribution. > You can get more info about sharity from the following url: > > http://www.obdev.at > > But I do not believe they have a port of this for AIX... > > Hope this helps, > Don > "Reason, not volume, is the primary > differentiator between a discussion, and an > argument." > > -----Original Message----- > From: Karl Jones [mailto:kjones@dbs1.com] > Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2001 10:14 AM > To: samba@samba.org > Subject: Re: mount NTBOX > > > If I may jump in here...
