Hi, the problem with MS Access and Excel files that couldn't be opened seems to be solved. I forgot to mention that our home filesystem is NFS mounted on the samba server and then exported as shares. When I mount the filesystem with the NFS option "nolock" (do not start lockd) everything works fine. When I do not use the option I have to set the samba option "fake oplocks = yes". As far as I remember I didn't mount the filesystem with the nolock option when I had the old linux kernel and samba 2.0.5a installed. Maybe some NFS-gurus can shed a light on this behavior.
