Set gid problem hpux10.20 2.0.7-2 binary package update
I was incorrect in which of the following three potential solutions solved my problem with "Failed to set gid privileges" messages appearing in log.smb when browsing (during re-testing Samba was not the browse master...) The solution to my problem with browsing was Giulio's option 1) not option 3) as previously reported. The binary package 2.0.7-2 for HP-UX 10.20 in my test works fine a new user is created with uid and gid > 0 along with the smb.conf addition guest account = ..new account.. I haven't tested but assume that changing nobody to a uid and gid > 0 would also have solved the problem. It is still true that the patch from December 1999 described in Giulio's option 3) does not appear in the "latest" source, but it was not responsible for the problem I was encountering. Accept my apologies for my incorrect posting, and, thanks again Giulio for your assistance (my problem is fixed.)> From: Giulio Orsero > To: samba@us4.samba.org > Subject: Re: Set gid problem hpux10.20 2.0.7-2 binary package > Date: Mon, 02 Oct 2000 21:17:16 +0200 > Organization: nowhere > > On Mon, 02 Oct 2000 11:07:25 -0700, SteveC wrote: > > > >[2000/10/01 16:54:44, 0] lib/util_sec.c:(69) > > Failed to set gid privileges to (-1,-2) now set to (0,0) uid=3D(0,0) > >[2000/10/01 16:54:44, 0] lib/util.c:(2381) > > PANIC: failed to set gid > > 1) > Create a new user, ie smbguest, with uid and gid > 0, and then use > guest account =3D smbguest > in smb.conf (default is nobody which has negative uid on your system) > > if this does not help > > 2) > Look at include/config.h that samba's configure creates and see that the > sys calls samba decides to use to switch uid/gid are appropriate for > your system. > > 3) > http://samba.org/cgi-bin/samba-patches/accepted?id=3D4;user=3Dguest > But this should be already in 2.0.7 I think. >
