samba - Sep 2000 - User unable to change their password using smbpasswd

Hi all,

When a user attempts to change their passwd using smbpasswd they get the
following error :

machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the tconX on the IPC$ share. Error was : ERRSRV -
ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password pair in a Tree C
onnect or Session Setup are invalid.).
Failed to change password for brodier

When root changes the passwd with smbpasswd it works OK but the unix passwd is
not sync'd despite this being specified in the smb.conf

Any help is appreciated
