Hi,
On a Sun E250 (SPARC) with Solaris 8 (latest patches as of last week) using
the 2.95.2 version of GCC that is packaged with the Solaris 8 Bonus
Software, I get the following config.log after running:
./configure --prefix=/opt/samba
--------- start ----------
/opt/samba/samba-2.0.7/source>cat config.log
This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.
configure:610: checking for gcc
configure:723: checking whether the C compiler (gcc -O ) works
configure:739: gcc -o conftest -O conftest.c 1>&5
cpp: fork: Interrupted system call
configure: failed program was:
#line 734 "configure"
#include "confdefs.h"
main(){return(0);}
--------- end ----------
GCC version:
/opt/sfw/bin>./gcc -v
Reading specs from /opt/sfw/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/2.95.2/specs
gcc version 2.95.2 19991024 (release)
--------- end ----------
/opt/samba/samba-2.0.7/source>env (N/A items removed)
COMPILER_PATH=/opt/sfw/bin
PATH=/opt/sfw/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/ucb:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/ccs/bin
SFW_HOME=/opt/sfw
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/sfw/lib:/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib:/usr/local/X11/lib:/usr/dt/lib:/usr/openwin/lib
--------- end ----------
What can I do to fix the problem?
Thanks in advance,
David
interupted fork often means your compiler is damaged, or your shared libs (libc and what not) are damaged. Try downloading the latest binaries for GCC and using them. ----- Original Message ----- From: <david.touster@acecomm.com> To: <samba@us4.samba.org> Sent: Monday, September 11, 2000 8:51 PM Subject: Solaris 8 and Samba 2.0.7 compile error> Hi, > > On a Sun E250 (SPARC) with Solaris 8 (latest patches as of last week)using> the 2.95.2 version of GCC that is packaged with the Solaris 8 Bonus > Software, I get the following config.log after running: > ./configure --prefix=/opt/samba > --------- start ---------- > /opt/samba/samba-2.0.7/source>cat config.log > This file contains any messages produced by compilers while > running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake. > > configure:610: checking for gcc > configure:723: checking whether the C compiler (gcc -O ) works > configure:739: gcc -o conftest -O conftest.c 1>&5 > cpp: fork: Interrupted system call > configure: failed program was: > > #line 734 "configure" > #include "confdefs.h" > > main(){return(0);} > --------- end ---------- > GCC version: > /opt/sfw/bin>./gcc -v > Reading specs from /opt/sfw/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/2.95.2/specs > gcc version 2.95.2 19991024 (release) > --------- end ---------- > /opt/samba/samba-2.0.7/source>env (N/A items removed) > COMPILER_PATH=/opt/sfw/bin >PATH=/opt/sfw/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/ucb:/usr/openwin/bi n:/usr/ccs/bin> SFW_HOME=/opt/sfw >LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/sfw/lib:/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib:/usr/local/X11/lib :/usr/dt/lib:/usr/openwin/lib> --------- end ---------- > > What can I do to fix the problem? > > Thanks in advance, > David > > >
Thanks for the quick reply! I forgot to mention that I tried that. I thought that the GCC in the bonus package was the 2.8x version and down loaded the following and installed it. (it's the pkgadd file and not a gz file even though it looks like it) Received the same error message and log using it to configure Samba. ftp://nce.sun.ca/pub/freeware/sparc/8/gcc-2.95.2-sol8-sparc-local.gz (aka: http://sunfreeware.com/) Anything with my environment? (I did switch the /opt/sfw for /usr/local in all the paths, etc. in the env. when switching gcc) Anyone else with this problem?
