-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi Everybody, I would like to run a login script that maps out the different shares on a RH 6.1 server running SAMBA 2.06. I have several Win98 and NT workstation clients that log into an NT domain and use my server for file and print services. The Samba server is not part of the domain. The clients currently have access to a share common to us all and a private share to their home directory on the Samba server. Currently these are mapped by the client at reboot, etc. Is it possible to have a script run on the Samba server even if the clients are actively authenticating to the WinNT domain and passively logging into the Samba server? If it is possible to run a script off of the Samba server, can anybody provide me with the correct syntax to put into the script to map the drives? Thanks. Scott A. I was wondering if there is a place that describes login scripts that are run when you logon. I need to set up logon scripts to map drives, assign environmental variables about users and do so other stuff. I am looking for a list of variables that can be used and such. Right now all my login script does is set the time of the machine to the samba server and map one drive. I need to capture printer ports too but need to do it based on a users group. Any direction would be greatly appreciated Steve Helder
Hello, I have a Samba (2.2.1a) server with several Win98 clients. I have set login scripts to %U.bat. For usernames and hence login script files less than 8 characters, the login works great. When the username is greater than 8 characters, Windows displays an endless error list "Cannot access C:\windows\<mangled uppercase file name>". At first, I fiddled with the membership and modifiers of the netlogon directory on the server. This didn't help. I added create mask and directory mask entries for the netlogon share without success. When I removed these entries, the long filename bat files worked well. After rebooting the server, I am back to the problem. What needs to be done to successfully (and reliably) use login scripts for user names longer than 8 characters? Bill William L. I am using Samba 2.2.3a on RedHat 7.2 with kernel 2.4.18-9 (but tried 2.4.7-17). The problemem is that samba dropps the connection randomly when copying files from a Windows machine. This is what I get in the logs: [2002/02/12 20:46:58, 0] smbd/oplock.c:oplock_break(843) oplock_break: client failure in oplock break in file Videos/Yoshiki Drums solo (live).mpg [2002/02/12 20:46:58, 0] smbd/reply.c:reply_lockingX(4392) reply_lockingX: Error : oplock break from client for fnum = 11940 and no oplock granted on this file (Videos/Yoshiki Drums solo (live).mpg). I have Samba 2.2.2 server with Win98 2e clients. Login script = %U. Batch files in the netlogon directory with names greater than 8 characters will not run at login. Windows gives "Access Denied" error and I have to CTRL C to terminate an endless loop of error messages. If I manually map to the netlogon directory after logging in, I can run any batch file with 8 character or less name but same "Access Denied" error occurs if I try to execute the long name batch files. I can't believe I am the only person with this problem. How do you get around it? Bill William L. Clifford, M.D., CCFP -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed
Hello again I have noticed that my XP system does not pick up its login script at bootup. the win98 is fine but XP just skips it. I am using %g.bat in the smb.conf. Is there a problem with WinXP(many I hear you say) that stops it from picking up login scripts. Thans in advance Simon ------------------------------------------------- This mail sent through IMP on Redhat 8.0 and Qmail with Ldap.

If its XP Home, then I do not think domain logons will be an option - and therefore you will not see the logon script processing. If its XP Pro, is it setup to logon to the domain properly? I know these may be simplistic questions, but it never hurts to check the obvious.... -- Jim Morris (Jim@Morris-World.com)
