samba - Dec 1999 - samba broken

I'm having serious problems with Samba not working properly.  Clients
can't
log into the server for some reason.  I'm trying to run through the 
diagnosis stuff at http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html and when 
I try to do a net view \\samba-server at a pc DOS prompt, I get 'System 
error 1728 has occurred.  A remote procedure call (RPC) protocol error 
occurred."  Same thing from network neighborhood - the server is listed, 
but when I click on it I get the same RPC error.

My mapped drives worked fine until I shut down my PC - now I can't get back 
in.

I'm was running  pre-compiled 2.0.6 no nis+ on Solaris 7 - Sun Ultra 1 
workstation.  I tried reinstalling pre-compiled samba, and am now running 
2.0.4b, to no avail.

Most of my smb.conf is as follows:

Hi David,
It almost sounds like Samba is not creating or communicating with the socket 
layer, needed to create the 137,138,and 139 sockets that samba uses to 
communicate for Netbios over TCP/iP for some reason - have you brought down and 
back up you Ux workstation to make sure you clear out any problems at that 
level?  You could use netstat -an and grep for 137,138 and 139 to make sure 
that those ports are being created and listened to...
