samba - Feb 1999 - smbclient "append"

Since smbclient is an "ftp-like Lan Manager client program", 
could it support the ftp "append" verb?

We've got an application that uses ftp's append to move data back to NT
Server.  I'd really like to shoot the ftp server and use smbclient to
replace it.
