Running Samba 1.9.18p10 on RH Linux 5.2. I've got all my workstations talking to the server, including Win98, NT4SP3 (with and without registry plaintext patch), and OS/2. I'm running without encrypted passwords. On one NT4 workstation, a user can log in with one account, username all lowercase. With another username, he can't see the server. One name is "chris", the other is "ChrisE". I have identically-named accounts on the Unix side. I have username level cranked up to 8, and both passwords are all lowercase. Password level is 1, because of 1 (working) mixed-case password on the LAN. I tried smbclient -L from the Samba side to the workstation and could view the workstation shares using the "chris" ID and password and using the -W option to set the correct domain (the workstation is not in the same domain as the Samba server.) What could be going wrong? This smells like a problem with the mixed-case username.
