When I tried to customise configure.in and Makefile.in script I dicovered something that made me wonder: Why is smbpasswd, smbpassgrp, smbgroup and smbalias by default placed in a subdirectory called private under samba $(basedir) and not in the etc directory or the @libdir@? And why is VARDIR = $(BASEDIR)/var instead of @localstatedir@? It is easier to have full controll over where the files go from the command line so that I can make an alias to configure samba each time I update my the source.
