Fw: Unknown parameter encountered: "domain controller"
Reported a couple of times to the Bugs address, still haven't figured out what's going on. Used to work in 1.9.17 versions. -----Begin Included Message ----- I keep getting the following error when I try to set my domain controller to a local NT machine in smb.conf: Load smb config files from /etc/smb.conf Unknown parameter encountered: "domain controller" Ignoring unknown parameter "domain controller" I had this problem in beta 2, and now in beta3: Samba 1.9.18p3 Full steps to recreate problem: In /etc/smb.conf (on Linux RedHat 5.0): # Use only if you have an NT server on your network that has been # configured at install time to be a primary domain controller. ; domain controller = <NT-Domain-Controller-SMBName> domain controller = RFA_Server1 Thanks, Bill -- Bill Eldridge Radio Free Asia bill@rfa.org ---- End Included Message ---- -- Bill Eldridge Radio Free Asia bill@rfa.org

this parameter is now redundant (removed) as it was redundant (not used) for at least since 1.9.17. luke (no longer on the samba digest)

Bill, Sorry about this problem. That parameter was changed in Luke's NTDOM branch of Samba to be a boolean parameter that means 'be a domain controler'. It was deprecated prior to that as nmbd will now use the correct browsing methods to find the domain master browser (which is really what the parameter was trying to set for Samba). I will get that fixed in the docs and in the example files for the next release. Many apologies for the confusion. Jeremy Allison, Samba Team.
