samba - Feb 1998 - Macro %S doesn't resolve to share name

I've found that the %S macro does not seem to expand as I would expect it 
to with Samba v1.9.18p3.  The example below should present the share 
"myshare" as having a volume name of "vol_myshare", right? 
Instead I am
shown a volume name of "vol_%S".

[myshare]
  volume = vol_%S

Has anyone else seen this behavior?
