samba - Jan 1998 - Samba and TotalNET

A question I have about samba and Sun's TotalNET (SMB+Appletalk+Netware
acces bundled with Solrais 2.6, as far as I know) :

Is the SMB code derived from samba or is this something completely
different?

Sun's TotalNET (re-badged Syntax TotalNET) is not
derived from any Samba code. It is their own
implementation.

You may be interested to know that I use Syntax's TotalNet software but ONLY
for the Netware side. I have beed using samba in a high availability
manufacturing environment for a year now with NO problems. Based on the bugs
I have seen from TotalNet so far, I do not think the same could be said for them
