I have a samba server running on one subnet and would like PC clients on another logical IP subnet to be able to use it. Both subnets are running over the same physical lan. If I renumber a PC so it appears on the samba machines subnet it can browse the samba server fine. Any ideas? The samba server is running on 130.195.43 and the clients on 130.195.59 Thanks. B.

The local browse master registers itself with the primary domain controller as the other local (to a different subnet) browse masters do, resulting in shared browse lists across subnets via the PDC. Check out docs/BROWSE.TXT. It's does an excellent job describing the process. -Reggie
Our Windows95 appear to be looking for servers or going through the election process all the time. They broadcast arp whois queries for each of the 8160 possible IP addresses in our subnet range. For the 100 or so that respond, they then try to make a connection and fail on our Unix, X terminal, and VMS boxes. Then they start again. Does anyone know how to turn off the browsing or specify a permanent set of servers in Windows95? Todd Vander Does Systems Programmer American Mathematical Society voice (401) 455-4031 P.O. In my incident, the problem was solved by playing with the printer driver options on the Windows machine. In my experience, the print job would spool to the server, show up in the queues, and then get sent to the printer (HP5si and HP4mv in my case). The printer light would flash for a while, and then the printer would just ignore the job and go on to the next print job. Assuming that you are using some HP printer in postscript mode, try playing around with the options in the Windows print driver. I believe the key options that got mine working were: 1. Spool directly to port in Raw mode. 2. Change postscript options from "Optimize for speed" to "Archive Format" Best of luck. Sean -- ___________________________________________ Sean A.
