Hi, I can't seem to figure out what I setup wrong on my samba server version Samba 1.9.16p9. I can see the machine locally, but cannot see it when I go to another subnet? I can however see other windows 95 machines on my subnet. Does anyone know how I can fix this? thanks -Michael Le

Just upgraded to the latest version of SAMBA (from 16p9 to 1.9.17) Under Windows for Workgroups I now find that DOS COPY commands of the following form dont't work:- COPY S:\DIRECTORY\FILE C:\ they produce the following error:- General failure reading drive S: (where S: is a network drive attached using NET USE) Note that there is no problem when copying files using Windows and that the problem does not occur in a DOS box under Windows 95. Also if I CD into the required directory the COPY works i.e. S: CD DIRECTORY COPY FILE C:\ I noticed the problem because there is a COPY command in my LOGIN.BAT. Any suggestions? ------------------------------------------------------------- Andrew Speakman Unit Manager Information Systems Unit http://www.ich.ucl.ac.uk/isunit/ Institute of Child Health Tel +44 (0)171 242 9789 x 2624 30 Guilford Street Fax 0171 242 1324 London WC1N 1EH mailto:a.speakman@ich.ucl.ac.uk -------------------------------------------------------------
Can I make a general request to users of this mailing list to: a) not include binaries in postings - that includes whatever it is that microslop mail does with 'sending the message in two formats' b) make sure their mailers break lines up sensibly - many mail systems have a habit of truncating long lines c) not include the whole of the previous samba digest :-) On a more sambaish note, I still have some problems with print jobs getting queued up by samba but not being forwarded to the lp queue for some clients. I think however it is a bug in the lp command in SCO rather than a samba problem, as the lp command does get executed (I wrote a wrapper around it to check). Consequently, I get round it by using cron to dump the queue to the printer every 5 minutes :-P -- ===================== Ext : 247 ================== _o Network Support for TIS Software O>O ===================================================
