I am having a problem with samba and windows 95 not working with passwords that do work from unix systems, smb unix client, and mac clients. The samba server is running on a solaris 2.5.1 box running NIS+ for authentication. The problem is that all the autogenerated passwords that we created for our new students do not work with samba and win95. Does anyone have a clue what the problem is? Hello All, I am trying to get samba 1.9.18p10 running on a Solaris 2.6 box and am having trouble with the passwords. Everything works OK as long as I have "NO PASSWORD" entered in the smbpasswd file and "null password" in the smb.conf file. However, if I create the smbpasswd file from the UNIX passwd file via mksmbpasswd.sh, no success. For instance: "smbclient -L hostname" returns the following: Session setup failed for username=JOHNCC workgroup=GIS myname=PUMA destname=PUMA ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are invalid.) smbpasswd returns the following: bin/smbpasswd: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the session setup. Error was : ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are invalid.). The smb.conf file is listed below, any suggestions would be much appreciated! =======================================================smb.conf: [global] security = user encrypt passwords = yes smb passwd file = /usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd null passwords = true workgroup = GIS netbios name = puma interfaces = 165.127.8.50 allow hosts = 165.127.8., 127. valid users = johncc [homes] guest ok = no read only = no [tmp] comment = temporary files path = /tmp read only = yes ========================================================= Thanks! --john john.cartwright@state.co.us
