Dear all, I use Rh7 as\my OS. I have install many softwares in my PC Actually, i could not run it completely. I guess that is bound to X-windows. I''m really afraid to loose my PhD dissertation which is by the end. The system boots properly and stop just before the password interface. Howb to overcome this situation or get my documents? Thank you for you suggestions Roger

I think there might be a problem with the X Windows configuration on your system. Did you configure it for the appropriate graphics card and monitor ? What is the hardware configuration you are using ? Please give the details. After you boot up, try shifting to the console mode by pressing Ctrl + Alt +F1 and then check your X configuration. - Manish Roger Atsa wrote:> > Dear all, > I use Rh7 as\my OS. the boot disk souldn''t help becauso the problem is not with the kernel, is with some service, do you try to boot in single user mode and change the configuration to not start the broken service? or to entrer in interactive mode during the boot time ? good luck roger (another one :-) ) On Thu, 15 Feb 2001, Jay Hodges wrote:> Roger: > > Did you make a boot disk during installation? > > Jay Hodges > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Roger Atsa" <ratsa@uycdc.uninet.cm> > To: <redhat-secure-server@redhat.com> > Sent: Monday, February 12, 2001 2:41 PM > Subject: need help > > > > Dear all, > > I use Rh7 as\my OS. I was thinking of using the boot disk (or LILO prompt) to bypass the startup and get to the command line to disable the offending service, or make configuration changes. Perhaps inetd is already started and you could telnet in via another machine. At that point you could kill the offending process...... - Jim James DeLude TRAINOR ASSOCIATES 135 Oxford Road New Hartford, NY 13413 (315) 797-7970 (315) 797-7975 (Fax) jdelude@trainor.com> From: Roger Pena <roger@infomed.sld.cu> > Reply-To: redhat-secure-server@redhat.com > Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 11:28:49 -0500 (CST) > To: <redhat-secure-server@redhat.com> > Subject: Re: need help > > the boot disk souldn''t help becauso the problem is not with the kernel, is > with some service, do you try to boot in single user mode and change the > configuration to not start the broken service? > or to entrer in interactive mode during the boot time ? > > good luck > roger (another one :-) ) > > On Thu, 15 Feb 2001, Jay Hodges wrote: > >> Roger: >> >> Did you make a boot disk during installation? >> >> Jay Hodges >> >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: "Roger Atsa" <ratsa@uycdc.uninet.cm> >> To: <redhat-secure-server@redhat.com> >> Sent: Monday, February 12, 2001 2:41 PM >> Subject: need help >> >> >>> Dear all, >>> I use Rh7 as\my OS.
