I hope someone can help with this one. I finally recieved my new certificate from Thawte today and installed it onto my RHSS 2.0. It works great in Netscape 4 and IE 4. However, when I try to connect via Netscape 3.0, I get a "database error, unable to connect message." Last year I had done an upgrade from Thawte on my Netscape 3 because the browser certificates expired. This was a known problem and easily fixed right from the Thawte site. Now when looking at Thawte for the solution to this problem they offer this as an explaination: "Some servers are shipped with Thawte''s old Server CA root. This is a problem for Navigator 3.x, which have the new Thawte Server CA root (after users have manually installed it). Netscape compares its copy of the CA root with the server''s copy and gets "confused" when it sees that the roots have differing expiry dates. The result is that the Navigator user gets the warning that there is a "database error" and that no connection to the server is possible." Their solution is to upgrade the Thawte CA in the server and offer links for Netscape FastTrack, IIS and Website Pro. No mention about Apache or RHSS though. One of my biggest secure server customers is a die-hard NS 3 user, so ignoring the problem isn''t an option. -- Andy _________________________ Andrew R. Our server does NOT ship with the old Thawte certificate, but the new one (which expires in 2020). --- -Preston Brown Red Hat Software, Inc. pbrown@redhat.com
I upgraded my Netscape certificate and so did my client. We are both getting the database error. -- Andy _________________________ Andrew R. Beebe Maine Web Design RR 2 Box 363 A Bridgton, ME 04009 (207) 647-8411 http://www.datamaine.com _________________________
Preston, My sincere apologies. I forgot that I had re-installed Netscape 3 since I upgraded the certificate. I just re-upgraded my Netscape and it does work. -- Andy _________________________ Andrew R.
