I have a really short page, basically it''s XHTML 1.0 transitional, with a title and a script link to prototype. I don''t have anything in the body. I get this for line 3936 in the error console (firefox 2.0) Error: element.dispatchEvent is not a function Source File: file:///h:/programs/web/prototype.js Line: 3936 It''s referring to the if branch around this area: if (document.createEvent) { element.dispatchEvent(event); } else { element.fireEvent(event.eventType, event); } Can someone explain why this is happening? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails: Spinoffs" group. Hi, You''re most probably running Firefox with the Javascript strict warnings set to true. Don''t! Thanks for the reply Tobie. I checked - it''s off. And I should clarify: it''s an error, not a warning. I can''t actually use Prototype because of this error. I don''t have any extensions installed for this Firefox. It''s as vanilla as it gets. WinXP SP2 if that matters. I ended up using jQuery for what I needed, but I would still love to use Prototype in the future. It just seems that I can''t get it to work... Hi, Here: http://www.immakiku.net/balance.html prototype.js is freshly downloaded from http://www.prototypejs.org/download jquery.js is also the latest uncompacted version as far as I can tell I also had a different file that I thought would''ve triggered it. Basically it was what I described with blank everything. That did not trigger it once I uploaded. But let me know what you find. If you want to use both jQuery and Prototype on the same page, you must use jQuery''s noConflict mode. If not, you''re overwriting Prototype''s $ function, and thus breaking about everything in Prototype. That''s amazing... I must apologize for this. I could''ve sworn it didn''t work without jQuery being put in there. Thank you very much Tobie.
