Rails spinoffs - Jun 2007 - No AJAX response on random occasions

Hello group,

I''m a prototype newbie, working in a script byt someone else. Basicly
the script works, but sometimes it seems to stop working.

Basicly I have an Ajax.Request that calls a php script, and performs
an action on onSuccess. Sometimes however onSuccess (or onFailure or
onComplete) doesn''t seem to be reached at all.

you can see what happens at www.domeinenreus.nl (Dutch site).

The left form checks if a domain name is still available. Normally
this leads to a visually green or red response. But after a few checks
it just ends up with one that keeps spinning and doesn''t get a
response.

I tried doing a simple alert at onLoading and onLoaded. This works,
but when the response doesn''t show up, those 2 also take a long time
to appear.

Any ideas on what I should be looking at to solve this problem?

Hello Erwin,

First two or three AJAX requests go through, the next one times out
with the following PHP error:

> <b>Fatal error</b>:  Maximum execution time of 30 seconds
exceeded in <b>/var/www/vhosts/domeinenreus
> .nl/******/*****/functions.inc.php</b> on line
<b>**</b><br />
All requests have similar attributes. The problem isn''t with Javascript
or Prototype, but with your backend.

Also, i advise you to install "Firebug" extension for Firefox, it
helps
a lot to debug all things Javascript.
