Rails spinoffs - Nov 2006 - Internet Explorer and cutting edge prototype

It seems many of the new things in prototype does not work well with  
internet explorer. For instance

element.observe(''event'', function() { });
also, element.down(element)

seems not to work, but I think

Element.down(element) works ...

Can anyone verify this?
