I take it, that most of the people using the spin-off stuff are doing so in conjunction with Rails anyway. Marking the pages the pages on the Rails Wiki would be as easy as adding category: spinoffs to them. I have to say that I don''t at all like the idea of looking in more than a very few places to find Rails-related documentation. Please try to keep it centralized as much as is possible. I am happy to see non-Rails-specific Prototype examples (though I wouldn''t care one way or the other if I had to visit the main Rails wiki to find them).
I don''t care. I don''t use rails. I just use php with the prototype and the Scriptaculo.us. I just wanted to see a spot where there was documentation on the web so that maybe more people would use these tools. I tend to agree with both of you. While I''m not a Rails user -- yet :) -- it''d be nice to have documentation for these libraries together somewhere. I''m not entirely convinced they belong under the Rails moniker, as it seems they''ve outgrown that, and been noticed by the web community at large. (People from many different backend backgrounds find this stuff useful (php, asp, ror, etc.)) On 8/4/05, Whitcraft, Jon <jwhitcraft@brickyard.com> wrote:> > I don''t care. I don''t use rails. More documentation is clearly better than less (everything else being equal). Even better when the docs can be easily and reliably found without googling around. The script.aculo.us scripts already have a very nice home away from Rails. IMHO it would be best to put any further docs or wikis or whatever in very close proximity. Same for prototype. I''d say the first thing to do is ask the authors, Thomas and Sam, what their opinion is. [Rails-spinoffs] Re: Rails Spin-offs WIKI.
FWIW, I''m also using Prototype and script.aculo.us via the HTML::Prototype Perl library that was written for Catalyst, and we''ve even created a JSP tag library that provides access to both of these libraries in addition to Rico for use at work. So it''s definately bigger than just RoR now. Hi Jon! First! Thanks for your enthusiasm. :) But: I''d rather want to have this in on place-- so I''m going to install a documentation wiki for script.aculo.us at my site here. I hope I''ll have it up later today. Note that I can''t speak for Sam Stephenson, the prototype.js author; so the wiki will/should be more or less script.aculo.us centric, with pointers on how to use with this-or-that language, where to find addtional info, and so on, and so forth. I hope you''ll understand this, and I''d very much invite you to contribute to it. :) Thomas Am 04.08.2005 um 20:22 schrieb Whitcraft, Jon:> http://rails-spinoffs.bombdiggity.net/index.php?title=Main_Page > > guys here is the wiki.
