Hi guys,
I had looked for help on the debian gis list, but given this thread and
others (https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-sig-debian/2011-April/001590.html ),
maybe someone here could assist. I’m looking a bit of guidance trying to
install rgdal on a beowulf cluster where i don't have root access.
I was able to successfully download the gdal binaries and compile it to my
home directory.I successfully showed the rgdal package where my gdal
configure file was, and got over that hurtle. However now I’m still getting
an error searching for the libgdal.la. It reads:
checking gdal: linking with --libs only... no
checking gdal: linking with --libs and --dep-libs... no
/nfs/user08/bw4sz/Gdal/gdal-1.9.0/libgdal.la: file not recognized: File
format not recognized
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
/nfs/user08/bw4sz/Gdal/gdal-1.9.0/libgdal.la: file not recognized: File
format not recognized
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
configure: Install failure: compilation and/or linkage problems.
configure: error: GDALAllRegister not found in libgdal.
Did I download the wrong source, as suggested by others? The file libgdal.la is
there, just where it it supposed to be. My best guess is that i have a
non-debian version? Or that i need another flag when i ./ configure. Where
should i specifically go to get the correct libgdal.la?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Best,
Ben Weinstein
