R SIG Debian - Oct 2011 - Error updating R

Dear list, 

My Ubuntu Lucid Lynx system is from this morning showing the following error
when I execute apt-get update:

"W: Failed to fetch
http://cran.es.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/lucid/Release Unable to find
expected entry Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used
instead."

The error is reproduced for other different mirrors that I have tried.
