A recent dist-upgrade on Debian/unstable results in: r-base-dev is to be removed. I think these are the culprits: libreadline5 (5.2.6 => 5.2-7) libreadline5-dev (5.2.6 => 5.2-7) Holding them holds back r-base-dev as well. -- Prasenjit

Could | it be something else? Seems like the r-base-dev package is ahead of the libreadline-dev transition. Explicitly installing libreadlibe-dev (now from libreadline6) helped Prasenjit.
