Hi all! I have installed Debian on a partition of my desktop. When I first installed it, I got the Debian logo, with the appropriate icons. Now when I go into Debian, I just get a command line. What should I do to get to the regular screen, please? [R-sig-Debian] [R-sig-debian] dumb debian question
Hi Erin, I am a little confused about your question. Is it about needing to run R from a terminal? Or is the question that your computer isn't booting in to X but just a command prompt? If it's the former, R doesn't have a GUI unless you install something like Rkward or you run R through emacs (install ess as for this). There's other options as well. Also, I don't believe that GNOME or KDE in debian will add an R menu entry, perhaps the debian menu does? Anyways you can always launch R by typing R in a terminal. If this isn't your question and it's about not being able to load X (perhaps just typing something like startx would work and examing your log files) then that's a different question and I didn't really answer it. If your window manager or desktop manager doesn't load then you have some problem with X.
