If the founders had called it the Big R Archive Network we wouldn't be having this discussion but we'd all be getting our packages from BRAN. Or how about "Big R Internet Archive Network".... Or would that be confusing... Barry On Wed, May 4, 2022 at 3:51 PM Kevin Thorpe <kevin.thorpe at utoronto.ca> wrote:> This email originated outside the University. In that case, if you were a user without common sense, would you be a BRAN flake? With "Big R Internet Archive Network" we could talk about the life of BRIAN, and any references to The Life of Brian would result in getting thrown to the floor by a Centurion. Better than a name like Windows where "Big Windows Internet Archive Network would be Bwian and we might wonder about thpiwit, (bwavado ... a touch of dewing-do), and about culturally insensitive joke names like Nortius Maximus and the risk of finding ourselves in gladiator school vewwy quickly with rotten behavior like this. -----Original Message----- From: R-help <r-help-bounces at r-project.org> On Behalf Of Barry Rowlingson Sent: Thursday, May 5, 2022 9:13 AM To: Kevin Thorpe <kevin.thorpe at utoronto.ca> Cc: R Help Mailing List <r-help at r-project.org> Subject: Re: [R] [External] Re: Is there a canonical way to pronounce CRAN?
