I was using the menu bar on the graph which looks the same as the RGui even though I always use ESS. I guess the simple answer is don''t use the Rgui facilities when you are running R under ESS. Simple enough. It also might be a windows problem. with win 95b, gnu-emacs 20.7.1 and ess 5.1.16 the menu-bar pdf-file works fast and reliable (perhaps a memory problem?). Peter.
