R help - Jun 2001 - Gray levels in plot

Dear list,

is there a way to set the gray levels in a scatterplot? I want to make
some plots for a b/w journal and the dataset is so large that I need
pch="." for all points. As I understand the command gray(), it
generates
colors from prespecified gray levels. Are these the gray levels which
appear again if I plot with col=gray(level), save as postscript and print
with a b/w printer? Or can the gray levels be given to plot directly somehow?
(R 1.3.0 on Solaris)

Yes, that''s the best way to do it.  For other ways to specify colours,
see the ?par help topic.

That does give gray levels to plot directly.
