Dear all, first, I would like to thank R-core team for making so a great software available. Thank you all, really! Using R (1.0.0) on a Win98 platform, I need an x-server to run xgobi (through R xgobi interface). I've been using a MI/X server but trying to upgrade I noticed that MI/X is no longer available for free. Similarly, eXceed is available at evaluation version (for a limited time I suspect). Thus my question: knows anybody on the list of a free X server for PC? Thanks in advace! Peter Ho wrote:> Why don't you stick to the old MIX server. Why do you need to upgrade to a > higher version if it works? It works, but not very cleanly (e.g. the upper menus' options become invisible by scrolling down). What is more important, I am still unable to run more than one window of xgobi at the same time (but do not know if this is a problem of MI/X or of my machine setup or of my ignorance - have anybody the same problem?). Sure, I know I cannot demand too much from free software (R is really exception in this respect!). > And Linux/GNU, GIMP, apache, xgobi, .... ????yes yes yes, and more - I meant "one exception" (surely the word "exception" apply mostly to the Windows world, but in - example - Linux world it is rather a rule to have good free software...) At the same time, I tried to stress that one cannot *demand* high standard in free sw, regardless it *can* have better functionality than a commercial one. Apologies to all who could be offended by this note!
