[Rd] foreign package: reading epiinfo (PR#6895)
Full_Name: Giles L. Crane Version: 1.9 OS: Windows 98 Submission from: (NULL) (199.20.71.17) The foreign package enables R users to read datasets from other software. The read.epiinfo module works well for most EPI6 (EPI-INFO) .REC files. However, when the .REC file has an underline in column one, read.epiinfo seems to pick this underline and make the underline the first character in the variable name. In the ASCII text .REC files, the first character is used to indicate a how a variable is displayed when entering data -- the first character is not part of the variables name. The EPI6 variable name begins in column 2. I think read.epiinfo could be fixed easily. Cordially, Giles Crane
