As I mentioned earlier, it makes sense to maintain the Darwin/X11 version of R through fink (fink.sourceforge.net is a package management system). Jeff Whitaker (jsw@cdc.noaa.gov), the fink maintainer of R will install and maintain four versions of R, -- r-base -- r-base-atlas -- r-base-gnome -- r-base-gnome-atlas as well as r-recommended. fink will handle all dependencies elegantly, so people will have no problems any more with missing dynamic libraries and so on. Jeff has recently ported rpy to fink as well, and I will try to find some resources to set up fink patch and info files for other R packages, either the ones on CRAN or the ones to be found elsewhere. This will hopefully make it easy to solve various installation and dependency problems in a reasonable way (remember that fink has mysql, postgres, netpbm, python, hdf5, expat, tcl/tk and so on). ==Jan de Leeuw; Professor and Chair, UCLA Department of Statistics; US mail: 9432 Boelter Hall, Box 951554, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1554 phone (310)-825-9550; fax (310)-206-5658; email: deleeuw@stat.ucla.edu homepage: http://www.stat.ucla.edu/~deleeuw ======================================================= No matter where you go, there you are. --- Buckaroo Banzai http://www.stat.ucla.edu/~deleeuw/sounds/nomatter.au ======================================================= -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-devel mailing list -- Read http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~hornik/R/R-FAQ.html Send "info", "help", or "[un]subscribe" (in the "body", not the subject !)
