Why does R CMD check require write permission on all files in the package directory? I'm trying to maintain some of my packages using RCS, which means that depending on the current state of the system there may be a bunch of read-only files lying around. However, unless I'm missing something I don't see why that ought to be a problem that R detects and stops on. For the time being I'm just going to hack around it, but what is the rationale here?
