WOW neat! but...
1/ I tried install.packages("tseries", lib) on a machine which
didn't
have a fortran compiler and I happened to notice the error message fly
by, but install.packages() mostly gave the appearance that everything
suceeded, and the library was available. Is there a way to give a more
obvious report (maybe even remove the library) in the event of failure.
(It does work great on my other machine with g77.)
2/ Wishlist: Could lib have a default like R_HOME/library (if I own it)
and otherwise something like ~/Rlibs?
