R devel - Jul 1997 - R-beta: RPM package for R

A precompiled "RPM" binary of R-0.50.a1 is now available on CRAN for
installation on Linux systems which use the RedHat Package
Manager. The package also includes all contributed libraries
currently in the CRAN archive. Source code is not included in the
package, but the source RPM file is available on CRAN. 

The package is not PGP signed as PGP is illegal in France.

This is the first public release of the RPM package and may
have a few rough edges. Feedback is welcome.

Before we get to may versions floating about ... 

I had intended that these "a1", "a2" ... releases be hacker
releases
which will be followed by a R-0.50.stable release when the (worst)
problems are sorted out.  Thats why I announced to "r-devel" rather
than "r-announce".

(Note this is information rather than any kind of policy statement,
you are of course free to do whatever you like with R)
