Hi there, After seeing a tweet about puppet-lint I went ahead and installed puppet-lint using the gem install gambit. Noticed there was now a puppet-lint in my path and ran it against one of my manifests to try it out. Had this exact same problem last night. String.starts_with? wasn''t introduced until Ruby 1.8.7. Make sure you have Ruby 1.8.7 or greater installed. There are unofficial CentOS packages for ruby 1.8.7 - i suggest you test them and find out for yourself if they work: http://centos.karan.org/el5/ruby187/ Cant be harder than re-installing everything with debian.. Unfortunately in this case I''m stuck with whatever my VPS provider provides as templates. Fortunately they seem to have added CentOS 6.2 since I created this VPS (less than a year ago) so an update might be in order. There are other factors I''ve run into with CentOS though that make me crazy. Some stuff does not seem to work as well as it does on Debian. Admittedly there are things about Debian that make me nuts (such as the way Debian treats gems) but overall it has become my "go-to" distro. Peter L.
