It depends on how similar the system is to anything Puppet knows about.
The Puppet agent adapts dynamically to the node on which it runs, based to
a significant extent on the tools it finds available.

Puppet should have no problem managing files on such systems. It probably
will be able to manage cron entries and maybe users out of the box. For
anything it doesn''t by default know how to manage on your particular
systems, it is possible to write and automatically distribute plugins
(''providers'') that teach the agent how to manage particular
types of
resources.
