[Puppet Users] Migration cost when switching from the Foreman to Puppet Dashboard and vice versa
Hi. We''re playing around with the Foreman and Puppet Dashboard, deciding on which one to go for. An important aspect for us is what migration cost would be if we went for one, and later on decided to switch to the other. Have anyone thoughts on this? Re: [Puppet Users] Migration cost when switching from the Foreman to Puppet Dashboard and vice versa
Hi, Most of Foreman data can be generated automatically (e.g. facts, puppet classes, environments etc) the only exceptions is external nodes: Nodes info - if you are not using external nodes, this has to be entered manually. if you are already using another external node tool, you can just import that into Foreman. Parameters (external nodes variables) if you use the variable hierarchy (e.g. set defaults, and override them in the domain , host level etc, you would probably need to set this manually too). if you want to import the reports you can still do it if you have the original YAML files, and in theory it should be possible to import it also from dashboard db, but I never really tried. hope this helps, Ohad On Wed, May 19, 2010 at 11:09 PM, Kenneth Holter <kenneho.ndu@gmail.com>wrote:> Hi. > > > We''re playing around with the Foreman and Puppet Dashboard, deciding > on which one to go for.
