Michael, Having recently moved from Austin (and having stayed at the Driskill), I can definitely verify this is a lower price than normal. The Driskill is generally considered one of the best hotels in town -- but keep in mind there are a number of other options within walking distance (Hilton, Omni, La Quinta, etc). Andrew, The Ginger Man and Buffalo Billiards are pretty popular destinations for groups -- of course there''s a lot of choices down there. I''m sure some [current] Austinites will chime in. Call me crazy, but in this economy with vacancy rates at an all-time high nationwide, $189 for Texas seems high. I''m not going to claim it isn''t expensive, but the regular rates are considerably more. You can get reasonable accommodations downtown starting in the 140 range. The farther you get from downtown, the lower the price will go, but then you have to deal with driving and parking. Making arrangements to share a room is also an option.
