[Puppet Users] Puppetmasterd not writing log files (with and without mongrel)
Hi all, When I start puppet, I do it like: puppet 9343 1 0 11:24 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/ruby /usr/sbin/puppetmasterd --manifest=/etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp --servertype=mongrel --logdest=/var/log/puppet/puppetmaster.log --servertype=mongrel --masterport=18140 --pidfile=/var/run/puppet/puppetmaster.18140.pid puppet 9361 1 0 11:24 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/ruby /usr/sbin/puppetmasterd --manifest=/etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp --servertype=mongrel --logdest=/var/log/puppet/puppetmaster.log --servertype=mongrel --masterport=18141 --pidfile=/var/run/puppet/puppetmaster.18141.pid puppet 9379 1 0 11:24 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/ruby /usr/sbin/puppetmasterd --manifest=/etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp --servertype=mongrel --logdest=/var/log/puppet/puppetmaster.log --servertype=mongrel --masterport=18142 --pidfile=/var/run/puppet/puppetmaster.18142.pid puppet 9397 1 0 11:24 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/ruby /usr/sbin/puppetmasterd --manifest=/etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp --servertype=mongrel --logdest=/var/log/puppet/puppetmaster.log --servertype=mongrel --masterport=18143 --pidfile=/var/run/puppet/puppetmaster.18143.pid but I don''t see anything at log: tail /var/log/puppet/puppetmaster.log Tue Feb 17 11:24:29 +0100 2009 Puppet (notice): Reopening log files Tue Feb 17 11:24:30 +0100 2009 Puppet (notice): Reopening log files Tue Feb 17 11:24:31 +0100 2009 Puppet (notice): Reopening log files Tue Feb 17 11:24:32 +0100 2009 Puppet (notice): Reopening log files I tried specifying 4 different log file, but I still have nothing in logs: # cat /var/log/puppet/puppetmaster.log.1814* Mon Feb 16 16:44:57 +0100 2009 Puppet (notice): Reopening log files Mon Feb 16 16:47:00 +0100 2009 Puppet (notice): Reopening log files Mon Feb 16 16:45:59 +0100 2009 Puppet (notice): Reopening log files Mon Feb 16 16:46:11 +0100 2009 Puppet (notice): Reopening log files # lsof|grep puppet|grep log puppetmas 9343 puppet mem REG 8,3 11000 1181357 /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i386-linux/syslog.so puppetmas 9361 puppet mem REG 8,3 11000 1181357 /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i386-linux/syslog.so puppetmas 9379 puppet mem REG 8,3 11000 1181357 /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i386-linux/syslog.so puppetmas 9397 puppet mem REG 8,3 11000 1181357 /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i386-linux/syslog.so If I do the same, but with only one puppetmaster (without mongrel/http): # !ps ps -ef|grep puppet puppet 9960 1 0 12:44 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/ruby /usr/sbin/puppetmasterd --manifest=/etc/puppet/manifests/site.pp --logdest=/var/log/puppet/puppetmaster.log (after runnning some puppet on client). # tail /var/log/puppet/puppetmaster.log [...] Tue Feb 17 12:44:55 +0100 2009 Puppet (notice): Reopening log files ]# lsof|grep puppet|grep log bash 2750 root cwd DIR 8,6 4096 208207902 /var/log/puppet puppetmas 9960 puppet mem REG 8,3 11000 1181357 /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i386-linux/syslog.so puppetmas 9960 puppet 6u REG 8,6 1872324 129073164 /var/puppet/log/masterhttp.log puppetmas 9960 puppet 7u REG 8,6 1872324 129073164 /var/puppet/log/masterhttp.log puppetmas 9960 puppet 8u REG 8,6 1872324 129073164 /var/puppet/log/masterhttp.log lsof 9999 root cwd DIR 8,6 4096 208207902 /var/log/puppet grep 10000 root cwd DIR 8,6 4096 208207902 /var/log/puppet grep 10001 root cwd DIR 8,6 4096 208207902 /var/log/puppet lsof 10002 root cwd DIR 8,6 4096 208207902 /var/log/puppet [root@gridinstall puppet]# rpm -qa|grep puppet puppet-0.24.7-4.el5 puppet-server-0.24.7-4.el5 [root@gridinstall puppet]# rpm -qa|grep mongrel rubygem-mongrel-1.0.1-6.el5 # cat puppet.conf|grep -v "#"|grep .
