Did you try ./install.rb -h ?
--destdir[=OPTIONAL] Installation prefix for all targets
Default essentially /
that sounds like you want to at least specify that?
so if you specify something like:
./install.rb --destdir=/build --bindir=/usr/bin
--sitelibdir=/usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8
you would end up with a whole tree in /build of directories like:
/build/usr/bin/...
/build/usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/...
Is that what you needed?
