[Puppet Users] Puppetmaster give me network cut on xen
Hi all puppeteers, I''m facing a strange behavior since I moved my puppetmaster server inside a xen domu. Randomly the network is cut on the domu (and all other domu on the same dom0), the only solution to get network back is to restart my dom0. I''m facing this problem only on my puppetmaster domu. I have more than 30 other domu which are working perfectly, but when I''m starting this puppetmaster domu after a random time it cut the network and this also for all other domu! All my domu and dom0 are running debian with amd64 arch. My puppetmaster config is 2 instances of puppetmaster (with mongrel server type) and one nginx load balancer. I was using the same by the past on a physical server and everything was working fine. After more than one month of investigation I didn''t find explanation, the only fact is that on this domu I have puppetmaster processes. Are some of you using a puppetmaster server inside a VM specially a debian 64bits distro? I''ve had puppetmaster running inside a Debian domU for the last 15 months or so, and I''ve never had to restart my dom0 except after power outages. The other dozen or so domUs hosted there have had no network outages as you describe. -- Mike Renfro / R&D Engineer, Center for Manufacturing Research, 931 372-3601 / Tennessee Technological University --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. Hi Kevin, Are you by any chance using a Broadcom NetXtreme II chipset ? I had the same problems: http://pieter.barrezeele.be/2008/03/22/xen-bridging-troubles/ Hope this helps, Pieter On 04 Aug 2008, at 11:03, Kevin Stevenard [IT] wrote:> Hi all puppeteers, > > I''m facing a strange behavior since I moved my puppetmaster server > inside a xen domu. [Puppet Users] Re: Puppetmaster give me network cut on xen
Hi Pieter, 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 12) 05:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 12) Thanks to your blog, I will issue a purchase order now for new network cards ;) But there is something that I don''t understand, ok it seems that I don''t have luck by having these network cards, but the strangest fact is that these kind of network outages only appears when a puppetmaster is running under one domu. By the way yesterday I tried to run puppetmaster in webrick server mode, instead of mongrel + nginx and network outages appears again! So now what I''m thinking is to reinstall this VM but with a 32Bits arch instead of full 64bits. The only thing different on this server from others is the use of ruby. Perhaps this is the reason off all my pain. And sorry for this thread which finally seems to be not related to puppet Kevin STEVENARD ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pieter Barrezeele" <macbar@gmail.com> To: puppet-users@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, August 4, 2008 5:01:53 PM GMT +03:00 Kuwait / Riyadh Subject: [Puppet Users] Re: Puppetmaster give me network cut on xen Hi Kevin, Are you by any chance using a Broadcom NetXtreme II chipset ? Most dom0 and domU are 64 bit and have Debian etch+backports and Ubuntu Hardy installed. Some are 32 bit. On three machines I have two xen bridges with some domU outside of our LAN in the DMZ and Domain0 and other domU inside the LAN. The puppetmaster is running on a 64-bit domU with one cpu and 1GB Ram. So far I didn''t recognize any major network trouble beside the well known ''Other end went away; restarting connection and retrying''-messages. But I think these are other problems.
